Salary:
The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $160,000-$210,000 for annual base salary. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidate’s actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate's location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. Please note countries outside the USA would have a different pay range in the local currency based on the local labor market, and not tied to USA pay or ranges. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment.

What We Can Achieve Together:
The Senior Attorney will independently provide very high value legal services on complex matters to advance The Nature Conservancy’s priorities and appropriately manage risk focusing on TNC’s impact investment portfolio. The attorney will be part of a specialized team of attorneys and paralegals and will report to a senior attorney on the team.
They will apply highly developed analytical and risk management skills to serve organizational needs efficiently and effectively, clearly articulate complex legal concepts and options to project managers, high-level managers, and the Board of Directors. They will also ensure that transactions and activities are legally sound and consistent with the organization’s mission, authority, policies, and procedures. They will need to travel occasionally and work long or flexible hours as needed.
We’re Looking for You:
The Senior Attorney provides legal advice and direction on very complex matters to assigned programs, including structuring, drafting, and negotiating structured finance agreements with sovereigns and commercial lenders in support of TNC’s Nature Bonds program. The Senior Attorney will support NatureVest’s impact investment work, including private investment funds, debt and equity investment documentation and influencing decision-makers at all levels of the Conservancy through strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with others to turn conceptual ideas into legally enforceable agreements.
They will hold an advisory role organization-wide on key issues or major projects arising when dealing with investments, including US securities law compliance, investment advisor and broker dealer matters, and corporate structure and governance. They will build relationships across the Conservancy using their ability to communicate complex legal concepts to non-lawyers in order to facilitate transactions that have multiple stakeholders and advise other attorneys based on recognized substantive expertise and judgement. As Senior Attorney, you will be our go-to person on high-profile, cutting-edge conservation transactions like Nature Bonds. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the ongoing mission of conservation by directing and shaping the work of our Legal team!
What You’ll Bring:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Juris Doctorate or equivalent and license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
Seven (7) years relevant legal experience, including at least five (5) years of experience in cross border securities, project finance, structured finance, sovereign debt, or similar transactions.
Securities law experience.
Experience negotiating complex, sensitive or high-profile transactions and agreements.
In-house experience and/or law firm experience advising clients and senior management.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural experience.
Experience working on transactions with foreign governments and development finance institutions.
Experience developing, directing, and managing multiple projects and implementing strategic program goals.
Combined ten (10) years of law firm and in-house experience.
