The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between: $201,600.00 and $302,400.00 USD per year; however, while salary ranges are effective from 1/1/23 through 12/31/23, fluctuations in the job market may necessitate adjustments to pay ranges during this period. Further, final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to geographical location, experience level, knowledge, skills and abilities. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
The Novartis Legal team is seeking a Director, Legal Counsel to handle litigation and investigations across a complex portfolio of global matters. This role will be a hybrid working model, based out of our East Hanover, NJ site.
What you will be doing:
• Contribute depth of knowledge and expertise to the development of litigation and investigations strategies that maximize efficiency of approach that are appropriately responsive to areas of risk. • Advise and act as a strategic partner to business colleagues on issues arising within assigned matters. • Drive effective strategies and solutions linked to a comprehensive understanding of the business and enforcement landscape. • Support the development and implementation of the strategy on assigned litigations and investigations. • Demonstrate subject matter expertise on matters and issues by providing pro-active, in-depth, business focused advice and counsel. • In collaboration with other members of the Global Litigation and Investigations team, identify legal framework and enforcement landscape developments in a comprehensive manner and communicate these updates as appropriate. • Support the Global Litigation and Investigations team in driving a consistent and effective approach to day-to-day matters, including responses to litigation requests and management of tendered cases. • Anticipate and maintain up-to-date knowledge of current laws and trends relevant to substantive areas to provide strategic advice and foster compliance. • Provide support on litigation reporting requirements. • Effective management of outside counsel on assigned matters in a strategic and cost-effective manner. • Proactive support and collaboration with business partners and Global Security on matters.
What you will bring to the role:
Education: • Juris Doctor (JD) required.
Experience: • 7+ years legal experience at law firm, in-house legal department, and/or former government experience (prosecutor/SEC/DOJ/AG) • Expertise in handling litigation matters and related discovery obligations • Foundational understanding of applicable laws and regulations including anti-bribery, FCPA, False Claims Act/Antikickback analysis • Strong understanding of global enforcement trends • Experience in conducting internal investigations, interviewing witnesses and identification of risk areas • Pharmaceutical industry experience beneficial • Strong business communication skills • Ability to present matters/findings in a thoughtful, efficient, and cogent manner
