Johnson & Johnson is recruiting for a Counsel, Real Estate, located in New Brunswick, NJ! Remote work options will be considered on a case-by-case basis if approved by the Company. This role will be co-located with the Real Estate Legal team and will report to Johnson & Johnson’s global legal lead for Real Estate, Construction and Engineering.
The Counsel will advise and closely support Johnson and Johnson’s Engineering and Property Services Global group and will serve as an important legal and business advisor on a wide range of real estate leasing matters relating to Johnson & Johnson’s worldwide portfolio. It will also collaborate with Law Department colleagues and business partners on an array of real estate legal matters. The successful candidate will be thoughtful, strategic, proactive, collaborative, and hard-working.
Key Responsibilities:
Serve as lead real estate leasing counsel, providing strategic advice to the business and drafting and negotiating commercial leases and related ancillary documents.
Support transactions involving Johnson & Johnson’s owned properties, including the negotiation of purchase and sale and related agreements.
Manage and negotiate real estate vendor engagements associated with the company’s real estate portfolio (e.g., transaction and property management, facilities management, contractor, architectural and engineering agreements).
Drive alignment among deal teams regarding transaction requirements and critical deadlines.
Collaborate with business partners in strategy planning for the real estate leasing organization.
Assist overseeing management of Law Department’s real estate (owned & leased) file management and database.
Direct outside counsel support of certain transactions in a way that ensures compliance with applicable Johnson & Johnson policies and procedures.
The base pay range for this position is $137,000 -$235,750. The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/ performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis. Employees may be eligible to participate in Company employee benefit programs such as health insurance, savings plan, pension plan, disability plan, vacation pay, sick time, holiday pay, and work, personal and family time off in accordance with the terms of the applicable plans. Qualifications - External
Education:
A Juris Doctor Degree or LL.M. with admission to and current good standing with the bar of at least one state or the District of Columbia.
Experience and Skills:
Required:
A minimum of 5 years of experience in commercial leasing, property acquisitions and dispositions, construction and real estate project management, preferably acquired at a law firm or in-house at a company with a dynamic real estate portfolio.
Experience handling transactions involving the purchase and sale of real property.
Comfortability overseeing multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
Ability to collaborate with business partners, other Johnson & Johnson attorneys and outside counsel is required.
Robust work ethic and good business instincts, with the ability to provide business-oriented, strategic, practical, and creative advice.
Travel up to 5%, mainly domestically, is required.
