POSITION: General Counsel: Reporting to the Argonne National Laboratory Director, Dr. Paul Kearns, the General Counsel will support the Laboratory’s mission by navigating complex regulatory, contractual, governance and litigation matters, serving as the Chief Legal Officer for strategy and management of legal matters. This individual will be a member of the senior management team and will lead and manage the legal function, as well as coordinate external legal resources. Candidates must be solutions oriented and self-motivated. They must exhibit a passion for understanding the Lab and contributing in a meaningful way to its developing and executing on its long-term strategic goals. In addition to possessing the requisite legal and technical skills, the successful candidate must approach this role from an experienced business perspective and demonstrate a high degree of initiative, ethics and integrity, as well as strategic/conceptual thinking capabilities.
LOCATION: This position will be located in Lemont, Illinois (a suburb of Chicago).
EXPERIENCE: The successful candidate will have at least 15 years of legal experience. Expertise with government contracts and dealing with government entities is strongly preferred. The ideal candidate will have some experience with the Department of Energy and the federal legislative process, as well as the appropriations process. Candidates must also have intellectual firepower, management experience and the gravitas to be a contributing member of the senior management team. Experience as in-house counsel in a national laboratory or similar environment is a clear advantage.
