The Legal Specialist is responsible for initiating and producing complex work at a high level of competence in one or more areas of law in support of attorneys and/or clients. Work product is self-directed and requires significant independent judgment and discretion. Advanced knowledge and understanding of practice areas, processes, procedures, rules and regulations is required. The Legal Specialist provides leadership and is considered an expert in one or more areas of law; educates and updates clients/departments on specific legal topics; and may take the lead on significant projects and communications. The Legal Specialist in this position will have a primary focus in general health law and management of adverse patient event investigations and medical malpractice claims and litigation.

**Cover letter and Resume are required for application consideration** Qualified candidates will meet one of the following education requirements: a four-year degree and a paralegal certificate from an American Bar Association (ABA) certified program; a bachelor’s degree from an ABA-approved paralegal educational program; or a J.D. degree. Five years of relevant legal experience required. A J.D. degree may be substituted for required experience. A bachelor’s degree plus 5 years of relevant legal experience, including at least 3 years of senior-level paralegal experience, may be substituted for all previously-noted requirements. Risk management, dispute resolution and litigation experience are strongly preferred. Completion of PACE (Paralegal Advanced Competency Exam), other professional designations (advanced certification in specific practice area), or a Master's degree preferred. Completion of the Mayo Clinic Project Management Course or equivalent preferred.
