WittKieffer has been retained by United Health Services to identify the organization's next Senior Assistant General Counsel-Transactional and Regulatory. This position will be supporting the organization either based in Binghamton, virtually, working out of a home office environment and attending meetings at United Health Services sites as required, or a hybrid model. This is an exciting legal counsel opportunity with a well-respected health system committed to serving the more than 600,000 residents in the Southern Tier of New York and portions of Northeast Pennsylvania.
United Health Services is a regional not-for-profit health care system serving the Greater Binghampton region in Upstate New York. With approximately $900 million in net revenue, United Health Services is comprised of four hospitals, an assisted living facility, home care, and United Health Services Foundation. With more than 6,300 employees across multiple sites, United Health Services is one of the largest employers in the region. The system has more than 500 medical staff and 60 locations throughout the region.
Reporting to the General Counsel, the Senior Assistant General Counsel-Transactional and Regulatory is responsible for providing legal advice and counsel to support internal clients and serve as lead attorney in certain substantive legal areas, as assigned, including but not limited to healthcare regulatory, healthcare transactions (including conducting due diligence, participation in negotiations, preparing and reviewing transaction documents), overseeing the system’s contract management processes and its contract administration system, physician contracting, compliance related matters, and other areas as assigned. The initial focus of this role will be to work with the General Counsel in assessing the current contract management lifecycle including its contract management software and designing a process with benchmarks that adds efficiency and value to the process. This assessment will also including evaluating appropriate outside counsel use for various transactional and regulatory areas.
The role of the Senior Assistant General Counsel-Transactional and Regulatory is a highly strategic and proactive legal counsel that is well-versed in the business dynamics and regulatory environment of the healthcare industry. This individual is innovative and someone who identifies solutions that facilitate United Health Services' strategy to assure the success and growth of the organization. The Senior Assistant General Counsel legal functions are organized to provide both subject matter specialization and specific business legal support to best meet the needs of this dynamic healthcare organization.

The successful candidate must have excellent academic credentials, a law degree from an ABA accredited school of law, and membership in a State Bar. New York bar membership is preferred but bar membership from a state outside of New York that will allow for in house registrations with the New York bar is acceptable.
