Caterpillar is seeking an attorney with significant experience (1) counseling, negotiating and drafting commercial and other agreements related to digital, autonomy, connectivity and eCommerce matters and (2) providing legal support and guidance for developing digital, autonomy, connectivity and eCommerce platforms (e.g. regulations and structure). The position will report to the Deputy General Counsel-- Sales & Services.
Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
Managing various streams of digital, autonomy, connectivity and eCommerce work taking place across the Caterpillar enterprise, providing guidance and leadership to identify efficiencies and synergies as well as coordinating current and proposed regulations.
Overseeing a team of lawyers who currently provide commercial, digital, autonomy, connectivity and eCommerce support to the business, the successful candidate is expected to be a “hands on” participant in providing day-to-day legal support and guidance for such matters across Caterpillar.
Providing management and legal expertise on significant legal issues; conduct analysis and provide counsel to senior business leaders; and be accountable to assess legal risk and identify and contribute to resolution of technical legal issues with a broad and complex band of risk exposure.
Working across a matrixed organization to provide consistent guidance on digital, autonomy, connectivity and eCommerce issues
Requires a law degree and a license to practice law in US
12+ years of progressively challenging responsibilities in commercial work focused on technology i.e. digital, autonomy, connectivity and eCommerce
Experience in digital, autonomy, connectivity and eCommerce matters, including agreements and related compliance issues
Subject matter expertise in areas of, domestic and international digital platforms, applications and data governance, regulatory matters, “on-board” systems (e.g. connectivity), autonomy and eCommerce transactions and structures.
Minimum of 3+ years’ experience leading diverse teams
Experienced with implementing and/or managing global initiatives/processes
Ability to collaborate vertically and horizontally, across levels and various business functions, and with external parties
Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills with demonstrated ability to impact, influence, and negotiate with internal and external resources
Results-oriented - willing to take initiative, bear risks, make decisions and take responsibilities to resolve problems and improve business results
The location for this role is Deerfield, IL. Relocation assistance may be provided for those eligible.
