BASIC FUNCTION: This position is responsible for providing legal advice, support, and coordination of complex legal matters as a member of the Coordinating Office of Regulatory Examinations (CORE) team. CORE attorneys provide strategic oversight of HCSC’s response to both state and federal regulatory exams, audits and investigations and work with paraprofessional, internal audit and operations staff to respond to regulatory examinations and investigations. This position is not only responsible for representing the Company in dealings with applicable regulatory bodies and government agencies, but also for providing legal advice to management on specific regulatory issues; and providing advice and guidance to less experienced attorneys or paraprofessionals and internal audit staff as required. This position may also require assisting with litigation matters and other legal projects as needed.
JOB REQUIREMENTS: * Law degree from accredited law school; * At least 3 years of experience as a practicing regulatory investigation or litigation attorney with significant experience handling regulatory hearings and/or investigations and/or litigation and internal investigations; * Admittance to the Illinois bar (or another state where HCSC does business or ability to be admitted within 6 months); * Experience in managing client relations or communicating on complex matters across a variety of business divisions in responding to an investigation, or a litigation matter, audit or other similar matter; * Demonstrated ability to think strategically and develop a sound approach for meeting regulator expectations while minimizing cost and burden on the company; * Commitment to delivering quality and timely legal services, plus a committed solutions-oriented approach; * Hands-on, hard-working, “roll up your sleeves” style, with both business partners and Legal teammates; * Demonstrated business and strategic acumen and ongoing commitment to business partnering; * Demonstrated ability to function as a self-starter and value-add contributor;
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills; * Able to work independently in a fast-paced environment while effectively managing multiple projects and competing priorities.
PREFERRED JOB REQUIREMENTS: * Experience in health care and/or insurance regulatory matters * Large law firm, or in house/government agency experience handling investigations, exams, or other white-collar matters.
