Principal Responsibilities

• Counsel and represent clients on complex labor and employment law issues, including just cause discipline and discharge in union and non-union environments, EEO, reasonable accommodation, wage & hour, leave of absence, retaliation and whistleblower, traditional labor relations, and other labor and employment law matters.
• Provide strategic advice on a wide variety of labor and employment legal issues and projects.
• Handle cross-disciplinary legal matters in collaboration with regulatory and business attorneys and other professionals and paraprofessionals.
• Engage with outside counsel to efficiently deliver legal expertise to KP when needed.
• Evaluate and communicate legal risks associated with complaints, grievances, charges, employer practices, and other legal matters.
• Litigate matters before federal and state agencies, including the NLRB, EEOC, and DOL.

Basic Qualifications

• Minimum eight (8) years of experience as a labor and employment law attorney in a law firm or company or in government; however, 13+ years of experience is preferred.
• Experience and knowledge advising and representing clients on employment law matters in California, including wage and hour, discrimination, retaliation, and leave laws and representing clients before agencies enforcing those laws. Experience and knowledge advising and representing clients in unionized workplaces in California.
• Demonstrates skillful insight into critical business problems and emerging issues.
• Proven ability to render timely and sound legal advice within applicable legal principles.
• Must have excellent written and oral advocacy skills and strong interpersonal skills.
• Maintain current knowledge of labor and employment law. 
• Creative problem solver.
• Comfortable reaching out to others to learn and develop necessary skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting.
• State Bar license required.
• Excellent academic and professional qualifications.
• Excellent references.

Preferred Qualifications

• 13+ years of California-focused Labor & Employment law practice.
• Experience in the health care industry.
• Experience with advice and counsel for complex organizations.
• Experience advising complex organizations with interaction between multiple legal entities.
• On the California Equal Pay Act.
• On affirmative action program compliance
• On wage & hour matters
• On traditional labor matters a plus
• Big law firm training a plus.
• In-house experience a plus.
