Director of Legal Management

The Director of Legal Management will lead the administrative operations of the Legal Department, working closely with the SPLC’s senior leadership team. The Director will report to the Chief Legal Officer and will be responsible for the following:
The successful candidate will have a J.D. or other advanced degree and a minimum of 10-15 years of legal operations and significant management experience within the operational side of a large, matrixed legal department. The SPLC is looking for someone with the experience and ability to design and implement world class operational systems and practices resulting in a Legal Department with high morale and outsized impact and that is productive, uniform, and cost-effective. A demonstrated commitment to promoting justice and working with and in diverse communities and supervising an inclusive staff is required.
The SPLC is dedicated to working side-by-side with the communities it serves to seek justice and fight hate and bigotry. Using litigation, legislation, public education, and other forms of advocacy, the SPLC works toward the day when the ideals of equal justice and equal opportunity will be a reality. This position will sit in the Montgomery, AL or Atlanta, GA office. This is a national search. Relocation assistance will be provided. Due to COVID-19, the SPLC’s offices are currently closed and staff is working remotely. If this position is filled while its offices remain closed, the new employee will work remotely until the offices reopen. The SPLC is not asking newly hired employees to relocate while the offices are closed.
