This position reports to the Associate General Counsel for the Seeds and Traits Business Platform at Corteva in Johnston, Iowa. This group is responsible for all commercial legal work within that platform in North America, and with global responsibilities related to product planning and strategy. The candidate will have the opportunity to work and provide counsel across a wide range of matters. Including, sales and distribution matters across seed brands, finance and collection work, various litigation management, acquisitions and divestitures, digital agriculture, brand management, strategic collaborations, and technology licensing. This is a position with responsibility to help drive strategic solutions and decisions for the business. The successful candidate should have strong experience and background in drafting and negotiating both commercial transactions in the distribution and retail space, as well as complex commercial agreements and transactions. Additionally, the position requires the ability to collaborate across legal and business teams to drive successful conclusions to business arrangements and be able to handle multiple and varied legal work on timely and efficient basis. Background in bio-sciences and or patent law a plus. This role is based in Johnston, Iowa and may require some travel. Representative Activities - Here’s How You’ll Contribute • Working independently, provide timely and efficient legal services to the US Commercial Team, and the Seeds and Biotech Business Platform on commercial and transactional matters. • Take lead in devising negotiation strategies, as well as assist business in the negotiation of complex business arrangements. • Promptly draft, review and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements, especially in distribution space, with opportunities to work on major collaborations and licensing of technology. • Actively participate as a member of number of leadership management teams. • Provide (directly or in cooperation with others) Ethics and Compliance client education and training across a variety of legal issues. • Manage and direct outside counsel to ensure the most effective and efficient utilization of resources to support client objectives. • Consistently anticipate, guard against, and propose mitigation strategies for the management of potential contractual, compliance and financial risks.
Required Qualifications - What You’ll Bring • Law Degree and Licensure. • Minimum of 6 - 9 years of commensurate experience.
