What you will do:
Advise on federal corporate income tax and state and local tax matters. This work involves handling federal and state audits and other controversy work, reviewing legislation for the potential tax impact on the State Farm companies, and advising various business units regarding tax compliance. This position will also involve working on various reinsurance and transactional matters, including M&A.
The Counsel position is within the Tax, Reinsurance and Financial Counseling Section of the Corporate Law Department. The Section advises on insurance tax, bank tax and general corporate tax issues. It also focuses on tax and ERISA issues concerning State Farm benefit programs and all financial services products offered by State Farm. The Section advises on foreign tax issues, acquisitions and reinsurance matters. The Section also provides support for State Farm's advanced life markets area, including estate planning and financial counseling issues.
What we're looking for:
Attorneys with 4 plus years of federal corporate income tax experience preferably at a medium to large size law firm, national office of a prominent accounting firm, or corporate legal department;
An understanding of insurance company and international taxation is helpful;
The ability to work in an environment that emphasizes information sharing, collaboration, teamwork, mutual respect and integrity;
Must have a law degree from an ABA accredited law school and excellent academic credentials;
Must have an active license to practice law in at least one state and a member in good standing of the bar;
Proactive mindset and anticipates and responds effectively to client's needs;
Demonstrated ability to be creative in approaching legal matters;
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; and
A strong work ethic and customer-service mentality.
