Overview: Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center is seeking a Vice President and General Counsel to be a senior advisor to both the President & Director and the Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer, and be a key member of the Executive Leadership Team. The GC is the chief legal officer of Fred Hutch and is responsible for leading all strategic and tactical legal initiatives related to Fred Hutch and its business activities, and for ensuring that Fred Hutch and its business and scientific divisions are provided excellent, cost effective, ethical, and timely legal advice and services. The GC works closely with senior management, and the Board of Trustees and its committees, in connection with the development and implementation of key corporate strategies and policies, complex business transactions, and the negotiation and implementation of critical agreements.
Firm: Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center is one of the premier cancer research centers in the world and home to three Nobel laureates. The Center is an independent, nonprofit research institution, located on a magnificent campus in the South Lake Union area of Seattle. Fred Hutch was one of the country’s seven original comprehensive cancer centers in 1973. With the mission of eliminating cancer and related diseases as causes of human suffering and death, Fred Hutch conducts research of the highest standards to improve prevention and treatment of cancer and related diseases.
Compensation: Competitive compensation commensurate with experience and qualifications, and comprehensive benefits coverage.
Experience: 15+ years of experience with a private law firm, corporate legal department, or research or academic institution, with appropriately increasing levels of responsibility. Experience with research organizations and/or 501(c)(3) organizations is a plus.
Relos: Yes, this is a national search. Relocation assistance is available for a move to the area.
Bar: Active State Bar license in good standing with ability to gain admittance to the Washington State Bar.
