Overview: Reporting directly to the CEO, the General Counsel will serve as Hord Coplan Macht’s principal legal advisor, with overall responsibility for the vision and leadership of the Firm’s legal strategy. The attorney will serve in a dual role, serving as a business partner and a legal advisor to senior management, business leaders and other members of the Firm. The General Counsel will be the Firm’s first in-house attorney and will join a collegial group of experienced and well-educated professionals who take pride in their work and in the collaborative environment they have created at Hord Coplan Macht.
Position: The General Counsel, reporting directly to the Firm’s CEO, Lee Coplan, will serve as Hord Coplan Macht’s first in-house attorney. He/she will be a member of the senior leadership team and will serve in a dual role, being a business partner and a legal advisor. The General Counsel will ensure that Hord Coplan Macht operates in legal compliance with industry employment and business process laws and limits exposure to risk. The attorney will provide the Firm’s senior leaders with effective advice on strategies and their implementation and will have direct involvement in complex business transactions and in preparing and negotiating critical contracts. The General Counsel will manage the legal function and its operations, retaining and overseeing the work of outside counsel.
Experience: The successful candidate will have at least seven (7) years of legal experience with a strong background as a corporate generalist and experience with contracts, corporate governance, business law, litigation, regulatory matters, complex transactions (including M&A), human resources, and compliance, among other areas. Prior in-house experience is preferred. Experience with the architecture and/or construction industry is a clear advantage.
