Hallmark's legal division is seeking an In-House Legal Counsel attorney with expertise in licensing and intellectual property to join our team. We support the core businesses of Hallmark Cards and its subsidiaries, including Crayola, and are valued business partners in helping both grow and protect our businesses. The In-House Legal Counsel - Intellectual Property & Licensing will report to the Deputy General Counsel, Intellectual Property and Product & Trade Compliance, and works on a variety of intellectual property matters with a primary responsibility for inbound and outbound trademark and copyright licensing. Specific responsibilities will include:
Provide legal strategy, advice and negotiation for domestic and international trademark and copyright license agreements, both inbound and outbound.
Work as part of a team to identify and protect the Company’s intellectual property.
Understand changes in business models, products and services that could pose new IP opportunities or threats
Build strong relationships with business partners.
Our ideal candidate should have strong client partnering and interpersonal leadership skills as well as excellent technical legal skills.
Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited U.S. law school
Admitted to the American Bar Association
Licensed to practice law in Missouri
Minimum 4 years' experience practicing law
Minimum 3 years’ experience working with intellectual property and licensing
4 to-8 years’ experience with a large law firm or practicing as in-house counsel
Experience protecting IP on e-commerce platforms or emerging online technologies
Strong ability to understand the business needs of internal clients and offer clear, actionable and efficient advice
Strong and effective business and legal partnering (internal and external) skills
Sound business and legal judgment and demonstrate the highest degree of professionalism
Excellent oral and written communication and negotiation skills
Analytical, interpersonal, problem solving and project management skills
Computer and legal research skills
Ability to quickly and effectively manage a variety of assignments under time constraints; effectively prioritize workload based on business needs & company’s strategic goals
High level of personal accountability, self-motivation, results oriented and work ethic. Is an agile learner and change agent.
