The Counsel position can be filled in either Des Moines, IA or Columbus, OH. The position provides a high level of expert legal support, advice and counsel to complex internal Commercial product, pricing and underwriting business clients in Nationwide Standard Commercial, Farm and Agribusiness. The position will have regular interaction with executive level leaders in Standard Commercial, and/or Ag/Farm Commercial Product and Underwriting on significant matters for the company. The position will also collaborate with other legal and business units such as Commercial Claims Legal, Sales Legal and State Legal. The position will furnish legal jurisdictional opinions, advice, and risk and mitigation assessments on matters of significant importance to the company and the Commercial organization. The position will lead or work directly on important, innovative, higher-risk or complicated Commercial product and underwriting matters in multiple states.
The attorney must be detail oriented attorney capable of taking complex legal principles and crystallizing into practical legal advice and cost-efficient business solutions in the areas of Commercial product, underwriting and pricing. The attorney must have the ability to independently or with minimal supervision assess legal risk and escalate issues as needed.
