A strategic-thinking, solution-oriented lawyer to provide advice and counsel on a range of matters to the Company’ global operations, including our Canadian and French businesses. Primary areas of responsibility will be defense/prosecution of litigation, disputes and claims; advice and counsel on regulatory compliance matters, including environmental, health, safety and transportation and stewardship of the Company’s products; drafting and negotiating agreements to support the Company’s commercial activities; and human resource, employment and immigration matters. This position will also support the Law Department in corporate legal initiatives and programs.
Duties and Responsibilities
Provide advice and counsel to various business units with respect to strategies to resolve, prosecute and defend litigation, disputes and internally managed claims. Key required skill sets include familiarity with early dispute resolution/disposition, management of discovery (including e-discovery), insurance coverage issues, and management of outside litigation counsel.
Research and provide advice and counsel to the Company’s management and operational and regulatory compliance personnel in the areas of environment, health, safety, transportation and product safety and stewardship.
Creating, revising and negotiating commercial agreements, including transportation and logistics. Understanding of risk mitigation, liability shifting and insurance coverage desired.
Work with and advise/counsel the Company’s HR and management personnel on employment laws, human resource issues, immigration and related matters.
Train management and other key Company personnel on compliance with applicable laws, regulations and corporate policies/practices, and research and provide counsel on coming changes in law that may affect the Company’s businesses.
Support and work on corporate programs, initiatives and special projects, as directed by the Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary.

B.A. or B.S. undergraduate degree and J.D. degree from an excellent law school and indicia of meaningful academic achievement, and admission to the bar of one or more states.
Between 3-7 years law firm and/or corporate legal department experience, with indicia of professional achievement, and expertise commensurate with experience.
Experience working with paralegals to support and supplement attorney work.
Experience working in or with heavy manufacturing and with governmental agencies is also desirable.
The ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a problem-solver and communicate effectively with our global business team are “musts” for this position.
The ideal candidate possesses the ability to understand and handle complex legal issues, demonstrates sound legal knowledge and reasoning and is able to understand new concepts and information quickly.
Some level of proficiency in French (both oral and written) helpful, but not required.
