We are currently seeking a highly qualified Senior Counsel to join our Law Department in Richmond, VA. This is an excellent opportunity to help drive innovation into Altria Group's strategic contracting and supplier negotiation process. You'll work in a dynamic environment that requires collaboration with representatives from multiple business groups throughout a Fortune 200 company. As Senior Counsel, you will be responsible for managing a high volume and wide variety of contracts and agreements in conjunction with our procurement function. In addition to legally reviewing and drafting agreements, you will negotiate with opposing parties and counsel internal clients on a variety of issues related to agreements, primarily with suppliers of goods, services, equipment and software used by Altria Group, Inc. and its subsidiaries. You will also be responsible for managing a small team of contract analysts and outside counsel that support the business in drafting and negotiating all forms of supplier contracts.
You'll have the opportunity to:
Provide legal counsel for supplier contracts to be entered into between any supplier of products, equipment, services, and/or computer software and Altria.
Draft agreements and templates; collaborate with the internal business clients and procurement to ensure proper legal documents are used; review edits proposed by other contracting parties; negotiate with other parties to arrive at mutually acceptable language; and assist business clients in finalizing documents for signatures.
Draft and negotiate confidentiality agreements on behalf of internal business clients.
Provide legal guidance on contract interpretation and other legal issues related to group purchasing and operations.
Provide legal guidance on compliance with various antitrust laws and regulations.
Work collaboratively with other business groups and procurement to draft and implement policies regarding the contracting process and compliance matters.
Conduct presentations and training activities for internal business clients.
Accomplish special projects as assigned by the Asst. General Counsel - Contracts.
Manage outside counsel for contract drafting, negotiations and other related services.To qualify you'll need:
A Juris Doctor from an accredited U.S. law school; admitted to at least one State Bar (preferably the Commonwealth of Virginia)
Six to twelve years of experience drafting and negotiating a variety of contracts; experience in advising business colleagues on risks related to contract provisions. In-house legal experience is preferred.
