Overview: The Office of the Vice President and General Counsel (“OGC”) is seeking an attorney who will provide legal and policy advice regarding student affairs. This attorney will work closely with student affairs professionals on all three University campuses, school and college administrators, and others who provide student-related services, such as in the Dean of Students Office, the Office for Student Conflict Resolution, the Registrar, and Admissions. This position has an important role in protecting the University’s interests by promoting effective risk management and compliance related to student academic and non-academic misconduct, accommodations for students with disabilities, student groups, club sports, and crisis management planning. Other responsibilities will include service on University committees, policy development and review, education/training, and monitoring local, state and federal legal developments.

Experience: The successful candidate will have at least five years of relevant legal experience, which may include foundational training at a top tier law firm. A demonstrated commitment to the mission of higher education and public research institutions, as well as professional experience at a large public university, preferably as in-house counsel, is preferred. Experience with FERPA, civil rights laws, financial aid regulations, and/or constitutional law is desired, as are experience in litigation, and/or advocacy in administrative matters.
Compensation: Competitive base and bonus commensurate with experience.
