Pfizer seeks to hire a Senior Vice President and Associate General Counsel, Intellectual Property (Chief IP Counsel) to succeed Roy Waldron, who will retire in June 2018 after more than 8 years in the role and nearly 19 years at the Company.
The Chief IP Counsel will lead and direct Pfizer’s IP Group, a global organization consisting of approximately 167 Pfizer colleagues. The IP Group is responsible for the procurement and management of Pfizer's patent, trademark and other intellectual property assets around the world and for providing strategic IP guidance for Pfizer's commercial and research operations.
The Chief IP Counsel will report to Bryan Supran, SVP & Deputy General Counsel, work closely with Doug Lankler, EVP & General Counsel and other members of Pfizer’s Executive Leadership Team (ELT), and serve as a key member of the Legal Division Executive Team (LDET).

A competitive compensation package, consisting of a base salary, bonus and equity, will be offered for this position, consistent with the candidate’s level of experience.
The successful candidate should have a minimum of 15 years of experience as a practicing patent lawyer either in-house at a corporate legal department within the biopharma industry and/or within a law firm. Experience developing and implementing IP policies and strategies; leading global patent teams; leading the assessment of strategic issues; managing or leading intellectual property litigation/challenges; providing strategic IP guidance and opinions in support of M&A and licensing transactions; evaluating the patent and trademark portfolios of competitors; and managing budgets, risk/benefit assessments, and strategically balancing use of internal resources and outside counsel and foreign agents are also required. A post-graduate degree in the chemical or biological sciences relevant to the biopharma industry is desirable.
