We are currently seeking talented Senior Attorney - Life Insurance Companies for our San Antonio, TX facility.
Responsible for providing legal advice within FASG Counsel in support of the USAA Life Insurance Companies. Handles a variety of general life insurance and annuity legal projects for the organization. Ensures the company’s activities are conducted within due diligence of the legal framework. Responsible for foreseeing and protecting the company against legal risks. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. May work with or oversee outside counsel to complete assignments.
Applies expert knowledge to support business partners across the USAA Life Insurance Companies ensuring that legal issues concerning referrals from member service areas, complaints, privacy, security breach, record retention, AML, and marketing are conducted within due diligence of the legal framework. Provides practical problem-solving on complex legal issues for various internal clients. Protects the company against legal risks by providing accurate legal advice to the organization ensuring the organization is operating within legal parameters. May assist more senior attorneys in highly complex legal services. Responsible for researching laws, regulations, and precedents, and preparing recommendations and/or documents to support the organization. Handles negotiations, drafting, and document creation. Alternative courses of action and unusual situations are presented to a more senior attorney for review. Leads cross-function initiatives. Handles a variety of general corporate legal projects for the organization. May work with or oversee outside counsel to complete assignments. May provide research, factual information, counsel and guidance on legal questions or issues, in support of more senior attorneys. This position may train, but is unlikely to supervise, less experienced lawyers on a day-to-day basis. Performs all other tasks as assigned.
JD from an accredited law school. Admitted to the practice law in one state or a territory of the USA Active member of good standing of the bar in at least one state or territory 7+ years experience practicing law. Ability to exercise good judgment on complex legal matters. Ability to influence members of executive management and executive council. For Internal Candidates:
