Albany Medical Center based in Albany, New York is seeking candidates for the role of Senior Vice President and General Counsel (General Counsel). The position will become vacant because of the planned retirement of the incumbent, who has been part of the system for 15 years.
Albany Medical Center is northeastern New York’s only academic health sciences center serving a 25 county region and a population of 2.9 million, it is one of the largest private employers in the Capital Region. It incorporates the 734-bed Albany Medical Center Hospital founded in 1849, which offers the widest range of medical and surgical services in the region including a Regional Level I Trauma Center and a Level IV Regional Perinatal Center (NICU), and Albany Medical College founded in 1839, which trains over 800 students to be the next generation of doctors, scientists and other healthcare professionals; it also includes a biomedical research enterprise and the region’s largest physicians practice with more than 450 doctors. Albany Medical Center works with dozens of community partners to improve the region’s health and quality of life.
The General Counsel is responsible for managing, guiding and providing legal services. This executive will serve as the chief legal advisor to the healthcare system senior leadership and Board of Directors. As a highly visible and engaged member of the senior leadership team, this executive will be responsible for a wide range of legal, regulatory, and compliance projects and will manage the legal resources in a manner that supports the overall priorities of the health system. This is an outstanding opportunity to develop and lead a successful legal team of a financially stable and growing health care system. Given the complexity of the system and how it is expanding its academic, research and health system delivery components, this is a tremendous leadership platform for a talented, consultative, bright individual.
The successful candidate must have excellent academic credentials, a law degree from an ABA accredited school of law, membership in the New York State Bar or eligibility for admission based on reciprocity is required and an outstanding record of achievement with at least ten (10) years of corporate health care law experience gained in-house or through working closely with complex health care clients. Specific experience working in an integrated healthcare delivery system is preferred.
