Sangamo Therapeutics, Inc. seeks an experienced attorney to lead and grow its Intellectual Property function. The Vice President for Intellectual Property (VP for IP) will develop, manage, and champion Sangamo’s comprehensive IP strategy by developing and maintaining Sangamo’s international patent portfolio; managing outside counsels’ patent preparation and prosecution efforts; working closely with the development and manufacturing teams to identify and harvest patents; developing efficient patent strategies and processes; monitoring competitor and invalidation activity; managing potential adversarial actions; overseeing the life cycle of pharmaceuticals; and managing the IP budget. Reporting to the Sangamo’s General Counsel, the successful candidate will have a background in life sciences, strong intellectual curiosity, and experience with gene therapy, gene editing or cell therapy. This position will be an integral part of Sangamo’s collaborative and energetic legal team.

Initially Richmond, CA; moving to Brisbane, CA within 9 months
15+ years of IP experience in the life sciences field, with a strong understanding of the clinical drug life cycle, patent prosecution, patent portfolio management, and adversarial actions. Experience with gene therapy, gene editing or cell therapy is required. Life science degree and prior experience in a law firm, as well as working in-house in the pharmaceuticals industry, are highly preferred.
