The Associate General Counsel will function as a key member of Schindler Elevator Corporation's legal team and must possess excellent legal and business judgment. This position reports directly to the Vice President and General Counsel -Americas. The primary focus within the first 1 -2 years will be supporting Schindler’s operating company and business in Canada. Thereafter, the Associate General Counsel will take on a broader role supporting Schindler’s interests in the United States and elsewhere in the Americas. The position will be located at Schindler’s Headquarters in Morristown, NJ.
The successful candidate will be able to work independently but collaboratively within a fast-paced, high performance environment, providing legal advice and guidance related to a wide range of commercial and business matters.
Provide outstanding legal support to business partners (internal clients) across the Schindler organization
Draft, review, and negotiate construction, service, supply and other commercial agreements and documents assuring that both legal and business objectives are met
Work with colleagues to continuously improve contract structure and processes as well as implementation and adherence to internal policies and best practices
Manage litigation in areas that include commercial disputes, employment and personal injury
Advise on regulatory, compliance and government affairs related matters
Complete special projects as assigned by the General Counsel
Some travel is required
Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school
Minimum seven years experience at a top law firm or in-house
Excellent academic credentials
Licensed and in good standing to practice law in one or more states
Prior experience providing legal support for companies operating in Canada is a plus.
Excellent judgment and ability to provide practical, solution oriented legal advice
Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills
Broad practice area experience with a core competency in drafting, analyzing and negotiating contracts
Confidence and proven ability to work with senior management and company personnel at all levels
Self motivated and highly proficient in the ability to multi-task, prioritize a high volume of diverse matters and tasks, and handle unplanned work.
