Directs leaders of teams in multiple geographic locations that handle lawsuits arising out of an auto or property claim. Responsible for managing performance and quality across the litigation management spectrum, including case evaluation and results, jurisdictional trends, and legal expense management. Develops strategies and plans to insure support of department initiatives for service, disciplined execution, and financial strength. Communicates regularly with senior business leaders, providing insight on complex case direction and overall litigation management and strategy.
- Directs, through subordinate supervision, the handling of lawsuits filed against USAA members and its insureds, to include appropriate evaluation and resolution. - Responsible for member service, paying what we owe, managing outside counsel and legal expenses, employee engagement, quality and compliance. - Provides guidance on technical matters and extends settlement authority on complex litigation. - Works with Process team to lead strict compliance with department policies & practices, insure effective litigation management across teams, and initiate new areas of focus to better serve the Member and the Mission. - Oversees the administration of file audits and other quality control procedures and requirements for the leadership team. - Creates mechanisms to strengthen litigation knowledge across teams, establish litigation strategy, and identify opportunities for continuous training and employee development. - Collaborates with Operational leaders across USAA’s Property and Casualty Insurance Company to share knowledge of litigated claim trends and jurisdictional developments in order to sustain high level of member service. - Responsible for implementing Performance Management rigor, coaching and counseling to provide skill development across teams. - Establishes and maintains controls to secure high quality member survey results and assists with creating appropriate Action Plans to resolve.
4 additional years of related experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted in lieu of a degree.
10 years of claims litigation experience or progressive related experience developing strategies, managing major initiatives and delivering results within a complex matrix environment.
4 or more years of people leadership experience in building, managing and/or developing high-performing teams required.
Experience collaborating with key resources and stakeholders, influencing decisions and managing work to achieve strategic goals required.
Executive-level business acumen in the areas of business operations, industry practices and emerging trends required.
Law School graduate with 7+ years of insurance defense trial experience
Management experience overseeing a distributed office and/or remote workforce
Proven claims or claims litigation-oriented project and process experience
Business analytics experience and/or experience working with data and metrics to manage the work and drive results.
